The DBPR application is where people get stuck.
Not because it's hard. Because they make avoidable mistakes.
Here's how to do it right.
What you need before you apply
Finish the 63-hour course first. The DBPR requires proof of completion.
Have your Social Security number ready.
Know your legal name exactly as it appears on your ID.
What the application asks
Basic stuff: name, address, contact info.
Education verification from your course provider.
Background disclosure questions. Answer honestly.
A fee of about $85.
The fingerprint requirement
You need electronic fingerprints for a background check.
Use an approved Livescan vendor. Costs $50-80.
Schedule this the same week you apply. It can take time to process.
Common mistakes that delay approval
Wrong name spelling. Your name must match your ID exactly.
Missing course completion. Finish the course before you apply.
Incomplete background answers. If you have something to disclose, disclose it.
Late fingerprints. Do them early.
After you apply
The DBPR reviews your application.
If everything's good, you get approval to take the state exam.
This usually takes 1-3 weeks.
